In tune with the Social Model of Disability, Dr Tom Shakespeare summarises his ideal changes in society, that disabled individuals:

• be treated as adults, and with dignity
• have knowledge
• be sexual and be allowed the freedom to take risks
• not to be at the mercy of care givers
• live free from sexual abuse
